Adur Crochet Shawl

Here is another crochet shawl. This isn’t a quick one. The slip stitch takes quite some patients but it is an easy stitch, just goes slowly. But I love how it shows of hand-dyed yarn and I think it is totally worth it. The resulting shawl is very soft and thick.

Notes on yarn: The shawl can be made as big or as small as you want, by adding an even number of rows to either section. Which means you can work it in any weight of yarn; however, I would suggest sticking to a range between 4ply and DK as thicker yarn will make section 2 too heavy. For the same reason I would recommend wool or wool blend yarns, rather than cotton yarn as cotton tends to be heavier.

I would also suggest using non-splitty yarn as the stitch in section 1 can be a bit fiddly to work (but it is worth it, I promise!) and splitty yarn will make the job a lot trickier, especially if you have never worked this kind of stitch before.

Fpdc – front post double crochet – yarn over hook, insert hook from front to back around the posts of the double crochet on the row below, pull yarn through, yarn over hook, pull through the first two loops on hook, yarn over hook, pull through the remaining two loops on hook.  One Fpdc worked.

Bpdc – back post double crochet – back post double crochet – yarn over hook, insert hook from back to front around the posts of the double crochet on the row below, pull yarn through, yarn over hook, pull through the first two loops on hook, yarn over hook, pull through the remaining two loops on hook.  One Bpdc worked.

Notes: Throughout the pattern chains don’t count as a stitch, which means you will work into the first stitch of the row and in the last stitch, not in the top of the chain. This will create an even and neat edge.
